STUDENT HANDBOOK

PARTICIPATION

Director reserves the right to evaluate student's performance or ability to participate.

Parents are required to drop off and pick up on time, but are not obligated to stay during this time. However, every family will be expected to assist in all aspects of our program including productions, festivals and fund raisers. Your involvement is critical to the success of our program.

ATTENDANCE: Punctual and consistent attendance at all rehearsals is expected of each member. Any member missing more than THREE rehearsals per semester may forfeit their privilege to perform at the discretion of the director.

Children are not allowed to leave the building during the day without a parent. Student drivers must have a signed consent form on file.

CANCELLATIONS: Consult local news media for cancellations due to inclement weather. If Pattonville school district is out, classes will be canceled.

CONCERTS/PERFORMANCES: First semester there will be a holiday concert. Second semester we will have two spring performances. Students need to arrive 30 minutes before concert start time. Those arriving after the concert begins will not be allowed to perform.

PROMPTNESS: Members and their parents are expected to be prompt concerning arrival at all rehearsals and performances. ALL orchestra students are expected to arrive at 9:30 a.m. to allow for set-up and tuning. Orchestra students arriving after 9:45 a.m. will not be allowed to rehearse with the group that day.

CONCERT DRESS: Dress code for concerts is white tops with black bottoms and black shoes. Girls may wear pants or skirts. Skirts should fall below the knee while seated.

COMMUNICATION

Communication is essential for a successful year. A lack of communication can result in unresolved problems, which may lead to conflict. Below you will find several avenues through which you may direct your questions or concerns. We will make every effort to resolve any problem that arises.

PARENT MEETINGS: Parent meetings will be October 20, December 1, February 9 and March 30. ..

MEMOS: There will be a file box set up in the entryway of the church. Every family will have their own hanging file. You are responsible to check and read your folder when you come into the building and when you leave each week. You may leave written messages for others as well. If you do not check your file, you may miss very important information pertaining to your child.

QUESTIONS: If you have a question regarding your child's music classes, please contact your child's teacher first. If for some reason he/ she cannot answer your question, she will get the information and get back to you.

PHONE CALLS: Please be considerate of home school schedules. Please place calls to your child's teacher no later than 6:00 p.m. the night before a rehearsal.

EMAIL: We will send email as the need arises. Please provide your current email address to the secretary, Evalyn Donley at 314-653-1177 or dande.donley@mindspring.com.

*Talk only at the appropriate times
*Use the restroom before rehearsals
*Bring only your instrument, music folder and water to rehearsals
*Do not engage in other activities during rehearsals.

RESPECT THE PROPERTY OF OTHERS:
*Always walk quietly and politely through the halls at rehearsals and concert locations
*Always put trash in its proper place
*Never damage, destroy or deface any furniture, equipment, or building
*Always inform the instructors of any accidental damage immediately. Any damage will become the financial responsibility of the family (families) involved. *Limit activities to designated areas.

RESPECT THE FEELINGS OF OTHERS:
*Always speak courteously to everyone.
*Never engage in crude, rude, vulgar or otherwise socially-unacceptable conversation.
*Dress appropriately. No bare midriffs or short shorts/ skirts. Shorts and skirts must fall below fingertips when standing straight up.

*Individual differences should be handled according to the biblical model of Matthew 18:15-20.

Please expect a letter home with the first instance of disobedience. You will be expected to sign and return the letter the following week. The second instance of disobedience will result in your child being asked to leave class for the day. A third instance will result in your child being asked to leave permanently.

Please expect to be contacted when your child forgets your good teaching. We know that you will want to be notified when a problem arises so you can use the opportunity for correcting and teaching.
